SAN DIEGO\u202f<\/strong>\u2013 May 10, 2022 \u2013 San Diego\u2019s Favorite\u00ae casino, Valley View Casino & Hotel has partnered\u202fonce again\u202fwith the ALS Association Greater San Diego Chapter to host the 7th\u202fAnnual ALS Fiesta fundraiser\u202fon Wednesday, May 18 starting at 6PM. The\u202fannual\u202fevent\u202fsupports the association\u2019s mission to discover\u202fmore\u202ftreatments and a cure for\u202fAmyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)\u202fand to serve, advocate for and empower\u202fall families\u202fthat are\u202faffected by ALS. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s event will focus on advocacy and in particular, the sports organizations that provide advocacy, awareness and support for ALS. The event will be a night filled with poolside cocktails, hors d\u2019oeuvres, mariachi music and a silent auction, followed by a gourmet dinner, a program with speakers and a paddle raise, all to benefit the ALS Association. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cStudies have suggested that there is a link between athletes, physical activity and ALS,” said Steve Becvar, Executive Director for the ALS Association Greater San Diego Chapter. “This connection between athletes and ALS is alarming. The San Diego sports community has taken notice and we\u2019re grateful for their support.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many notable athletes and sports personalities will be in attendance, including one of the most successful sports coaches, Steve Fisher, former head basketball coach at SDSU, Brian Dutcher, current SDSU head basketball coach, and Ted Leitner, longtime sports broadcaster, will serve as the emcee for the evening.\u202fEmmy Award Winning Broadcast Journalist Jane Mitchell will serve as special Fiesta correspondent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of the organizations\u202fthat\u202fthe event will highlight are the San Diego Padres, San Diego State University, Point Loma Nazarene University, University of San Diego, Swish Pro-Am basketball league, San Diego Sockers, and more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ALS Association Greater San Diego Chapter\u2019s purpose is to discover treatments and a cure for ALS, and to serve, advocate for, and empower people affected by ALS to live their lives to the fullest. ALS, or more commonly known as Lou Gehrig\u2019s Disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n
